The cycling faithful flocked to the 2012 edition of the North American Handmade Bicycle Show to view the latest offerings from the high priesthood of bespoke bicycles.
Working with materials ranging from carbon fiber to bamboo, an increasing number of independent frame builders are producing exquisitely designed and crafted bespoke bicycles for a wide variety of cycling niches.
Portland-based, Rapha collaborators Ira Ryan and Tony Pereira were on hand along with carbon specialists Alchemy from Austin, Texas and Guru of Montreal. While most exhibitors were North American, a small contingent of workshops from Japan, Italy, Denmark, and the UK provided a global spin on the event. It’s exciting to see so many artisans dedicated to their craft, plying their trading to a record setting, enthusiastic audience, and filling order books in the process.
